With Xcel*Solar Rewards, your rooftop can be a miniature clean-energy production facility!
When Minnesota residents living in Xcel Energy territory install solar panels on their property, the electricity produced by their solar panels can actually earn money with the Xcel Energy Solar*Rewards program!
Xcel Energy offers an excellent production-based incentive called the Solar*Rewards Program. This program pays you $0.08 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of solar power produced in your solar photovoltaic system over a span of 10 years. A 10Kw DC array produces about 12,000 KWh per year on average. That means you can potentially earn $960 per year, or $9,600 in the next 10 years. In addition to these annual incentive payments, you will be lowering your electricity bill as your array produces power. And if you produce more electricity than you consume in any given month, the excess kilo-watt hours (KWh) produced will show up as a credit on your bill.
To qualify, you must be a residential or business electrical customer of Xcel Energy and your photovoltaic system must be connected to the electrical grid. Your system must be less than 20 kW. Solar thermal systems are not allowed. Your system must produce less than 120 percent of your annual energy use, based on the past 12 months of energy use. And, as part of the Solar*Rewards contract, you agree to assign all of the Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (S-RECs) produced by the system to Xcel for the 10 year term.
