Solar Behind the Scenes: Meet the DIPP Team!

We think of installing a solar system like a James Bond movie–action packed, visually stunning….almost a magical experience. Well, maybe we won’t go that far. Yet, as beautiful as those solar panels look gleaming from rooftops, like a great James Bond movie, it’s truly the work behind the scenes that makes it all possible.

The DIPP Team–Design, Interconnection, Permitting and Procurement.

DIPP Team
From L to R: James Drummond, Charlie Pickard, Dillon Hylton, Donna Pickard, Jake Marsnik

First, our expert solar designers, Dillon Hylton and Jake Marsnik, create system layouts based on shading and rooftop or ground space available. Using programs such as Helioscope, Sketchup and other tools they determine the size of the system and perform a shading analysis, and thus, your solar layout is born.  The Hylton/Marsnik team then creates the structural diagrams. From there, Charlie Pickard, NABCEP certified PV professional, creates electrical one-line diagrams for project.  The one-line diagram is like an electrical ‘map’ showing all of the circuitry and wiring locations coming out of the solar system and connecting to the meter on your home or business.

With all essential project information in hand, Donna Pickard, our Interconnection and Permitting Specialist, works her behind-the-scenes magic to obtain required permissions from cities, counties,  jurisdictions and utilities in order to apply for incentives, pull permits (both building and electrical) and procure Interconnection Agreements.

Once all approvals are obtained, it’s time to order equipment. Our Project Manager, James Drummond, leaps in with Bond-like action, working with equipment suppliers and distributors throughout Minnesota and across the US to order the best panels, racking systems, construction materials and balance of system equipment that makes your solar project possible.

Like a scene in a movie, you look out of the window and see the TruNorth Solar crew arrive on the set. Along with trucks carrying the equipment and supplies, they start to set up– securing ladders and safety equipment to expertly begin creating the power of solar.  We make OSHA proud. We hope James Bond would be too.
