Philip Curtis

Master Electrician

Philip Curtis is NOT your average solar installing electrician. Since joining TruNorth Solar as its Master Electrician in March of 2020, the impact he’s made is profound.

It’s rare to find electricians in the solar industry with such a unique and fascinating background. In addition to holding a Master Electrician License in the state of Minnesota and Wisconsin, Phil holds the following:

  • First Class A Engineer, Boilers and Steam
  • Environmental Protection Agency, Universal Engineer, HVAC
  • USA Coast Guard Captain, Operator of Passenger Vessels, Coastal
  • USA Coast Guard Chief Engineer, Oceans, UNLIMITED HORSEPOWER, 3000 GROSS TONS

NOT exactly the typical background for an electrician in the landlocked state of Minnesota!

Phil has also served in support of the United States Military as a licensed marine engineer on board USNS LMSR. If you are lucky enough to have Phil work on your project, be sure to ask him about his favourite celebrities to have worked for as the chief engineer of their mega yachts!

What makes this relevant to solar? This background requires a steadfast focus on safety, leadership under pressure, the ability to troubleshoot issues in an efficient manner and of course, run a clean and organised ship…literally.

Needless to say, Phil is an integral part of the TruNorth Solar construction team for not only his project management on the job site, but as well his leadership with other electricians and cross-department improvement endeavours.

Phil is a proud husband and father of 2, a caring and respected teammate as well as daredevil snowboarder, as recently discovered on the TruNorth Solar company ski trip!
